Our Story

The banyan tree is a distinctive tree. It can grow outwards indefinitely because of its ability to grow prop roots which resemble an additional trunk. The unique structure of the banyan tree - its trunk, its prop roots, and its branches with their large leaves - provides shelter and shade to many. The banyan tree also bears fruit which provides nourishment to creatures and the soil.

Banyan Tree is a charitable organization with limitless potential founded by Andra Perryman, LCSW. Small seeds of hope and belief were planted when Andra was on her own journey toward healing from trauma. Now, having experienced healing she is able to offer hope and belief that healing is available to you too.

Banyan Tree has three primary branches of impact; normalizing mental health, increasing access to mental health care, and promoting education.

Normalize Mental Health - Banyan Tree is dedicated to reducing the stigma of mental health treatment. In the Banyan Tree Shop, many items display images or phrases that stimulate thoughts, invite conversations, and encourage positive action. Proceeds from items purchased from the Banyan Tree Shop go towards funding scholarships. So, when you buy from Banyan Tree, you and your community get something great.

Increase Access - You deserve mental health care. Often, the greatest barrier to treatment is cost. Banyan Tree is dedicated to increasing affordable access to quality mental health care from licensed professionals. Banyan Tree provides therapy scholarships to individuals and families in times of need. A financial crisis, job loss, or limited insurance benefits are only a few of the scenarios where a scholarship from Banyan Tree can help.

Promote Education - Banyan Tree provides learning opportunities for the community through sponsoring workshops and sponsoring the advanced training needs of mental health professionals. We believe that when you know more, you can do more.

Your donations nourish the roots that sustain the life of Banyan Tree by funding Therapy Scholarships and Program Sponsorships which remove the barrier of cost for mental health care.
